After serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1969-72, Al moved to Moscow, Idaho to attend the University of Idaho where he received his Bachelor of Architecture degree with a minor in Business Finance in 1977.
Al has 35 years of experience as a successful businessman, architect, real estate broker, investment consultant, and developer in the Pacific Northwest. He has both attracted and assisted new businesses in the region and plans to use that experience as the newest member of the Spokane Board of County Commissioners.
Prior to joining the Board of County Commissioners Al served two terms on the Spokane City Council where he was a member of several local, regional, and statewide boards and commissions.
Al has received numerous awards for his leadership skills, including the single national award for the Outstanding Board Member of the Year for 2008 from the American Public Transportation Association, and is the first person in the State of Washington to receive this award.
