Leonard Barnes joined the Port of Grays Harbor in 1984, bringing a background from the private timber industry.  As the Deputy Executive Director, Mr. Barnes oversees the Port’s business development, industrial property leases, and airport and marine terminal operations. 

Mr. Barnes works tirelessly at developing and maintaining customer relationships.  He has extensive knowledge of international business and markets.  He takes great pride in bringing business to the Port that will lead to economic development and job opportunities for Grays Harbor.  

Mr. Barnes has been active in many industry and community organizations, boards, and committees during his time with the Port: the NW Marine Terminals Association, Greater Grays Harbor, Inc., Grays Harbor Council of Governments, Washington Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board, Washington Public Ports Association, the American Association of Port Authorities, and the Grays Harbor YMCA.

A native of Bremerton, Washington, Mr. Barnes attended Grays Harbor College to play basketball and has been on the Harbor ever since.  Mr. Barnes has four adult children and nine grandchildren.  When he is not spending time with his family and dogs or coaching youth sports, you can find him hiking a backwoods trail somewhere in the Pacific Northwest or watching UW Football.
