Art Swannack was elected to his third 4-year term as a Whitman County Commissioner in 2020. Art graduated from Washington State University with a BS in Wildlife Biology. He was born and raised in Whitman County where he farms small grains, hay, and sheep with his wife Dr. Jill Swannack – a veterinarian with a mixed animal practice. Prior to being elected County Commissioner, Art served on a local ag co-op board, Lamont School board, Commissioner for Fire District #5, as President of the Washington State Sheep Producers, and on the National board of the American Sheep Industry Association. In addition to serving on the FMSIB state board, Art currently serves on the Washington State Council on Aging, representing Counties. He is also one of four eastern Washington board members for the Washington State Association of Counties, is Chair of Aging and Long-Term Care of Eastern Washington (ALTCEW)’s Board of Governors, vice-chair of the Eastern Washington Council of Governments, vice-chair for Eastern Washington Partnership-Workforce Development council, and secretary of Martin Hall juvenile facility consortium. Art's lifelong background with eastern Washington agriculture and rural communities gives him excellent perspective on the importance of effective and efficient freight movement to the success of our economy.
